SDNC is looking for a suitable Volunteer to fill the position of Proposal Writer (Grant Writing Specialist)
Contract type: Voluntary Contract.

Duty Station: Montreal, QC, Canada (Hybrid: Remote and In-Person as needed)
Duration: Three months (with possibility of extension based on performance and funding)

Backgrounds:
Sustainable Development Network Canada (SDNC) is committed to advancing sustainable development, promoting community engagement, and preserving cultural heritage through a variety of initiatives. These include:
- Launching sustainable community projects such as community gardens.
- Supporting small businesses through expos and organizing environmental cleanup campaigns.
- Promoting cultural heritage through festivals.
- Organizing forums on gender equality and health expos to improve community well-being.
- Hosting training workshops and job fairs to foster skill development and employment.
- To ensure the effective implementation and coordination of these activities, SDNC seeks a dedicated and experienced Program Coordinator.
Objective of the Assignment:
The Proposal Writer will be responsible for developing comprehensive and compelling grant proposals aligned with the SDNC’s strategic goals and program initiatives from August to December 2024. These proposals will target various funding opportunities, including government grants, international agencies, private foundations, and corporate donors.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Grant Proposal Writing:
- Develop high-quality, persuasive grant proposals to secure funding for SDNC’s projects.
- Ensure proposals are tailored to meet the specific requirements of each grant opportunity.
- Collaborate with program teams to gather detailed project information, including objectives, activities, budgets, timelines, and impact assessments.
- Write clear, concise, and compelling narratives that align SDNC’s goals with the funders’ priorities.
Research:
- Conduct thorough research on potential funding opportunities that align with SDNC’s mission.
- Identify relevant local, national, and international grants from public and private donors.
- Stay informed about donor interests and trends in the areas of sustainable development, cultural preservation, gender equality, and community health.
Budget Development:
- Work with the finance team to develop realistic and detailed project budgets that accurately reflect program costs.
- Ensure budgets align with grant requirements and are presented clearly in proposals.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Coordinate with SDNC’s program managers, volunteers, and community partners to gather input and feedback on program details and proposals.
- Ensure timely submission of grant proposals by managing deadlines and working efficiently with team members.
Follow-up and Reporting:
- Track the status of submitted proposals and communicate with funders as necessary.
- Prepare grant reports and updates for successful applications, as required by funders.
Deliverables:
- Submission of at least 4-5 grant proposals by December 2024.
- Comprehensive project narratives, logical frameworks, work plans, and detailed budgets for each proposal.
- Monthly progress reports on the status of funding applications.
Certifications/Education Required
- Proven experience in grant writing and securing funding for non-profit organizations, preferably in areas related to sustainable development, cultural preservation, and community engagement.
- Excellent research skills and ability to identify suitable funding sources.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and concise narratives.
- Familiarity with the requirements and processes of various types of funders, including governmental bodies, private foundations, and international organizations.
- Ability to develop detailed and accurate project budgets.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience in collaborating with diverse teams, including program managers and community partners.
Competencies and skills
- Knowledge of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and best practices in community development.
- Experience in developing proposals for cultural, environmental, and social justice initiatives.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread proposals.
- Familiarity with donor databases and funding platforms.
Reporting:
- The Proposal Writer will report to the Program Manager and collaborate closely with SDNC’s leadership team and project coordinators.
